Harriet

It is with sadness we announce the departure of our friend Harriet from Los Campesinos!.

As those of you who follow us closely may be aware, Harriet isn’t one for blogging, but she would like us to pass on her thanks for all the years of support and fun that you guys have given and shared in with her. Harriet has decided to leave Los Campesinos! to return to her studies and pursue the many dreams she has outside of music, and we wish her all the best in succeeding in everything she does in the future. In turn, we’d like to thank Harriet for all the memories she’ll forever be a part of, and the influence and impact she’s had on the music we’ve made together over the past half decade. We will miss you within the band dearly.

LC!, remains, for life.

R.I.P. (the experiences and stuff, not like on a literal “omg shes dead and what to do with her corpse is an immediate concern” level)

JesseAugust 29th, 2011 at 7:24 pm

:( We’ll all miss you, Harriet!

JarrettAugust 29th, 2011 at 7:30 pm

Goodbye Harriet! Thank you for your contributions to one of my all time favorite bands. You will be missed!

upeAugust 29th, 2011 at 8:48 pm

:( This is so sad. Anyway, good luck with your studies

AndrewAugust 29th, 2011 at 8:48 pm

As soon as I read ‘goodbye Harriet’ my heart sank, best of luck for the future, you’ll be missed!

Andrew McPakeAugust 29th, 2011 at 9:07 pm

I know that you can’t “replace” her, but do you have to bring anyone else into the band for the purpose of the live shows?

DomenicAugust 29th, 2011 at 9:32 pm

Good luck, you were the hottest babe in the band.

ChrisFAugust 29th, 2011 at 9:34 pm

D: WHA?!?! Another Campesino gone to education!

JFKAugust 29th, 2011 at 9:55 pm

Bye bye Harriet, all the best!

KevinAugust 29th, 2011 at 11:41 pm

NOOOOOOO I LOVE YOU HARRIET!! GONNA MISS YOU DEARLY!

AlexAugust 30th, 2011 at 12:51 am

always found your blog-shyness endearing, probably my favourite member because of it

good luck xx

JustinAugust 30th, 2011 at 1:48 am

Gutted. The strings really held everything together when it all seemed at it’s most chaotic. A true talent, and nothing but the best wishes.

JuliaAugust 30th, 2011 at 2:04 am

Sad news, but it’s an admirable choice. Best of luck!

JoeAugust 30th, 2011 at 2:28 am

Awful news but good luck in all of your pursuits!

Matthew LewisAugust 30th, 2011 at 2:39 am

Not only are your strings amazing, but you are the prettiest Campesinos! Good luck with everything, you will be missed.

jimmyAugust 30th, 2011 at 4:30 am

Thank you so much for your music Harriet! Your violin & other contributions bring SO MUCH to lc! songs.

Whenever I recommend people to lc! I say the music is really good but it’s the violin that’s the kicker.

Again thank you for everything! You will be soo missed! Good luck with what you are doing.

Good luck Harriet hope you do well and come back and do the odd bit now and again

JustinAugust 30th, 2011 at 9:36 am

I hope you guys get someone to play violin.

As much as I will miss Harriet’s work, it is kind of amazing and wonderful that you are all a bunch of normal folks who would like to go to school and pursue dreams instead of coasting on your indie rock success. It makes me smile that LC! has proven that, hey, you can just walk away from fame and do what you want, you don’t have to be stuck to something just because it’s successful.

Good luck out there Harriet. Punish and destroy.

AdrianAugust 30th, 2011 at 9:52 am

This makes me really sad, like I almost feel like crying sad. I don’t think I ever took a band formation change to heart this much ever before… Not even when the drummer from Placebo left…

JoshAugust 30th, 2011 at 11:00 am

why did you have to go and mention the drummer from Placebo? isn’t today sad enough already?

I'm too sad to remember a nameAugust 30th, 2011 at 11:51 pm

GAH!

MadelineAugust 31st, 2011 at 2:44 am

We’ll miss you, Harriet!

Thank you so much for everything. Your strings add a fantastic dimension to every song.

Best of luck!

RhysAugust 31st, 2011 at 3:43 pm

With all these comings and going, LC! are gonna turn into the indie rock Guns n Roses.

[...] Harriet, the violinist for LC!, has left the band to pursue her studies. It will be interesting to see whether the band find a touring violinist, or another permanent [...]

One of my favorite concert memories is talking to Harriet after your show here in Charlotte, NC about the shows I had seen recently. I wish her the best of luck and I hope that everything goes well for her!

RonSeptember 1st, 2011 at 9:08 pm

And then there were four. When Alex left I was bummed. When Ollie left I was troubled and confused. And I said aloud, to witnesses, “I’ll stay on board as long as Harriet does. She goes, I go…”

DonSeptember 2nd, 2011 at 12:33 am

Cheer up, Ron! There are actually 7 members! You haven’t really been paying attention, have you?

GarethSeptember 2nd, 2011 at 11:11 am

SEE YA RON!
G

Marcus MumfordSeptember 2nd, 2011 at 2:51 pm

Sorry to hear you got bummed when Aleks left, Ron. That’s not really the band’s fault though.

BryanySeptember 4th, 2011 at 6:16 pm

I’ve been a big fan for years but like Ron I am troubled by all of this.

The way they handled the whole Ollie situation was sickly and it was weird that comments were disabled on his blog post. Now Harriet has left (clearly one of the most talented members who actually added a huge amount live and on record) and something stinks.

Whatever happened to their all for one and one for all spirit?

GarethSeptember 4th, 2011 at 8:37 pm

Bryany – I really shouldn’t even gratify comments like this with a response, but it becomes hard to ignore.
if Harriet wanted to return to university and to pursue other goals of hers, how does that stink?
We handles “the whole Ollie situation” in the manner that he requested. Ollie wrote that blog-post, so if comments were disabled (I don’t recall if they were myself) then they were disabled by him. Comments are automatically “on” when a blog is written, so if they became “off” then he did that deliberately.

I appreciate people are passionate about our band and feel invested in us to quite a large extent in some cases, and that’s extremely flattering, but honestly, when you infer more from situations than is sensible or reasonable, then you’re causing yourself unnecessary strain, and being massively unfair on Los Campesinos!.

There are 7 of us here who believe whole heartedly in Los Campesinos!. This is our band and we’re fucking excited about it. We make no money from this band, and we’re hardly forging ourselves a situation that’ll be beneficial to us when we have families and children, if people see their futures elsewhere, as Aleks and Harriet have, then I have respect for them for making that decision.
Since Harriet left I’ve had the misfortune of a few conspiracy theories suggesting (with no basis or reason at all) that I’m in charge of this band and pulling strings, dictating lineup. That’s complete nonsense, and incredibly spiteful. I do believe in Los Campesinos! though, more than anything else in my world, and if you want to spout bile in the future, I suggest you keep it to yourself, because Los Campesinos! is for life and every time this band’s lineup has changed it’s become stronger and something more for me to believe in.

We do have an “all for one and one for all” spirit, and that includes you. If you’re gonna be a bitch about things, then you’re not part of the One.

Behave,
G

JWSeptember 5th, 2011 at 3:27 pm

Very well said G.

I’m sad to see Harriet go, like I was sad to see Aleks go, but Kim has an amazing voice and I’m really excited to hear the dynamic she’s going to bring to the new record. The same with Rob and Jason…

Growth in change. Stop whinging people.

Darragh.September 6th, 2011 at 5:04 pm

Respect G,

Live in Peace Harriet.

I’ve 5 LC! tshirts, and have travelled to London from Dublin twice specifically to see the band, once on the very unpleasant, 8 hour “Sail/rail” # Never have I craved the whorey graces of Ryanair as much as on that day…

There may, eventually…be money… LC for Life!

John BSeptember 8th, 2011 at 12:36 pm

Well said G, some “fans” seem to think they own the band and something like this is a personal affront to them!

Respect and best, best wishes to Harriet

JB

liviaSeptember 10th, 2011 at 10:24 am

You go G tell them bitches;)
Good luck in all you do Harriet, but as long as LC! continues to be the incredible band they always have been i see no reason to be concerned..or to publicly ‘unlove’ the band ona pathetic comment….

KevSeptember 11th, 2011 at 12:31 am

Good luck H xx

Conspiracy theories eh!

LOL

AndrésSeptember 20th, 2011 at 4:40 am

Good luck Harriet!

Will miss your sound and presence at shows. Love you guys

LarissaOctober 7th, 2011 at 2:09 am

This saddens me. Harriet was one of my favorite members, I loved her strings. In fact, I thought it was one of the best things about Los Campesinos.

I really hope you guys strive to find another violinst. It makes your music more beautiful.

Everytime an original member leaves, I feel as if my connection with Los comes more distance. Although you guys are still one of my favorites.

DougNovember 6th, 2011 at 5:38 pm

Gareth, we all know you were shagging Harriet in the naughty hole and the other members of the band found out. She was so ashamed she left the band. Heck I would be ashamed. tut tut
