Food Glorious Food!

So we start our tour on sunday.  An important factor in having an enjoyable tour is food!  We like having nice dinners before shows, it makes us happy.

So we have a request.  Can people send us suggestions of where to eat.  It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as its good!  And if it serves vegan food as well, even better!  The close to the venue the better, we’re pretty lazy.

Theatre of Living Arts – Philadelphia

Higher Ground – Burlington

La Sala Rosa – Montreal

Opera House – Toronto

Magic Stick – Detroit

Turner Hall – Milwaukee

Fine Line Cafe – Minneapolis

Waiting Room – Omaha

Bluebird Theatre – Denver

Neumo’s – Seattle

Richard’s on Richards – Vancouver

Wonder Ballroom – Portland

Harlow’s – Sacremento

Slim’s – San Francisco

Detroit Bar – Costa Mesa

Thank you very much.  We’ll review the suggestions. x

P.S. If we had our own cooking show it would nearly be as good as this…

I could give you a suggestion for Chicago, but you aren’t playing Chicago this time. :(

Just trying to guilt trip you guys. Have a great tour.

Queen of Sheba is pretty good Ethiopian right around the corner from the Wonder Ballroom in Portland. It’s cheap and vegan friendly!

Near the Bluebird, you’ve got your Annies Diner:
http://www.annies-cafe.com/menu.htm

Nothing vegany about the menu, but they’re lovely, lovely people and I’m sure they’d be happy to adapt…

There’s a chain of vegan restaurants called Native Foods, and there’s one in Costa Mesa about a mile away from where you’re playing: http://www.nativefoods.com/

Avanti Cafe’s also good, but a bit further away:
http://www.avantinatural.com/

You’d have even more options if you came to San Diego, which I’m told is America’s Finest City. ahem.

Hi,when you come to Montreal check out La Sala Rosa Restaurant. It’s in the same building as your venue La Sala Rosa (4848 boul. St-Laurent). It’s a Spanish restaurant offering tapas, paella, along with a changing weekly menu of divinely tasty specials and desserts.

In philly there’s a place a few blocks towards the river called Maoz, I’m not a vegetarian, but it’s some of the best food I’ve ever had. Of course, you could also check out Jim’s Steaks, and say to hell with animal rights…

ananda fuara is a veggie restaurant on market st. in sf, it’s probably a 10 or 15 minute walk from slim’s. they’re pretty good, if i remember correctly. but while you’re here, you should definitely get a burrito! don’t listen to san diego if san diego tells you they have the best burritos, because san diego is a LIAR. so, if you’re into that kind of thing, i can tell you that, too.

Depending on how far you want to go, Araya’s in seattle has great veggie/vegan food. Its a little ways from Neumo’s but Piecora’s pizza is pretty close and pretty tasty.

In Minneapolis you’ll be down the block from Cafe Brenda and around the corner from Pizza Luce, both of which have great food, vegan options, and eponymous dot coms. You’ll also be like 2 blocks from Sex World, but I wouldn’t eat there.

I am going to your show in philly tonight, and my family was wondering the same thing. We have dietary concerns, considering we are allergic to dairy.

I second Matt’s suggestion of going to Fresh in Toronto, however it’s not really close to the Opera House. You should go anyway. The nearest location is Queen St. W. and Spadina. Opera House is Queen East.

San Francisco

There’s two Thai places within 2 blocks of the SF Venue (Slim’s):

– Basil Canteen 1489 Folsom St (1/2 block from venue)

– Minora Thai at 1600 Folsom St !1.5 blocks from the venue)

There’s also a vegan restaurant called Herbivore at 983 Valencia Street. It’s about a mile away and I have a big vehicle to take a few of you down there if you like.

I mean, after all, I did vote you #1 and #12 of my music picks for 2008 :)

In Denver you could go to Watercourse, but it would be a bit of a walk. It’s on 17th closer to downtown. They specialize in Vegan/Vegetarian food, and they are quite good.

Oh! There is also a cupcake shop called The Shoppe just a few blocks down from the Bluebird. It is excellent. At the end of that block exists a very good comic shop called All in a Dream.

In Milwaukee there’s a restaurant called Casablanca which has good Middle Eastern cuisine and it’s only about a mile away from Turner Hall.

If you’re looking for something vegan/vegetarian there are two cafes called Beans & Barley and Comet Cafe which aren’t as close (about 2-2.5 miles away). I haven’t personally been to either, but I’ve checked out their menus and they look pretty decent and have gotten good reviews.

Otherwise, you could always just eat at Turner Hall’s restaurant, they serve a good fish fry on Fridays (it’s Milwaukee’s most famous fish fry, so they claim).

Seattle: The Honey Hole (conviently a two blocks west from Neumos and i would definitely recommend it)
Quinn’s and Via Tribunali (a bit pricey but if you’re up for it then go for it!)
