Wild Oscars

Above are my Oscar Predictions for tonight, the blue circles are my own lowly opinions on whom I think should win and the red circles represent the inevitability of who will actually win.

Sometimes these circles overlap and it is awesome.

I have spent far more time considering this then is healthy so have opted to use two circles in some categories where I couldn’t pick a clear winner or predict how stupid the judges might be.

I have not guessed for all the categories because I have not seen any of the animations or live action shorts, but I will say i heard the director of “Wish 143″ on the Mark Kemode film podcast and he use to direct “Casualty” so he has my vote. I have also not seen any of the documentaries but I hope Banksy does not gain a win just for the drama lama element or turns out to be James Franco as some have predicted.

Speaking of the Franco, Ricky Gervais wrote a suggested intro for him and Anne Hathaway on his blog and although I think Mr Gervais is a egotistical person who believes his own hype, some parts of it are rather amusing.

They are below.

Usually they hire comedians to host The Oscars, but tonight, instead, you get us!

AH
No comedians tonight. And do you know why? Because comics are ugly.

JF
Anyway let’s get this show on the road.
There were some great kids’ movies this year.
I took a five year old to see Toy Story 3 last week.

AH
Did you enjoy it?

JF
No it was ruined for me because the little brat was screaming and crying all the way through the film saying, “Who are you?” “You’re not my daddy.” “Take me back to the park where you grabbed me…”

I also hope some of  this happens

I cant watch the awards until Wednesday so am going to live in my wardrobe and jam my fingers in my ears and sing “lalalala” until then, I hope you enjoy them and we dont all hate “The Kings Speech” by the end of it.

lots of love

i’m glad that i’m not the only person who thinks Dogtooth should win. it was brilliant. got it for a few friends for Christmas.

I might have lost a few friends…

I love your Oscar commentary every year. Crossing my fingers for True Grit for cinematography. Christian Bale is totally gonna win best supporting even though John Hawkes deserves it so much more. Same with Hailee Steinfeld. She should win based on the principle alone that she was snubbed out of the best actress category. I shudder to even think that The King’s Speech will win. It was just boring next to The Social Network. Anyway, here’s to hoping that the best people win tonight (even though they won’t).

Can we all agree Ryan Reynolds was the worst snub for this year’s Oscars? The dude deserves the Best Actor hands down.

I really liked The Kings Speech, and definitely think Colin Firth deserves the best actor award, but im worried that Titanic hysteria will kick in and it will win everything, and people wont see the great film it is amongst the over lauding praise. I am confused about why Hailee is not in the best actress category when she is practically in every single scene…. The only conclusion I can draw is that category was over prescribed maybe and they could only squeeze her in if they put her as supporting. Ryan Reynolds was great in Buried, but possibly not best actor great….but then neither is Jeremy or Mark so… (I like them both, but they werent exceptional in those films i didnt think.)

Toy Story 3 counts as an adapted screenplay because it was a sequel, thus based on already existing characters

Hailee Stenfield wasn’t snubbed for best actress, she was entered to compete for best supporting actress by the movie studio. Everyone knew Natalie Portman was going to win for Black Swan, so they figured they would enter her in a category she might win…Dogtooth was the only foreign movie I saw and that was because it was on Netflix. That was a strange, strange movie. I thought I was sheltered when I was younger…I won’t discuss winners since you said you can’t watch until Wednesday.
